Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving Day is a yearly tradition that dates back to the 1620s. A feast was held by early settlers at the end of a successful harvest season to give thanks for bountiful crops, but it was celebrated on different dates by the separate colonies. In 1789, President George Washington proclaimed the first federally designated Thanksgiving Day and his successors appointed a day each year for the holiday. It wasn’t until 1863 that President Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving be observed on the last Thursday of every November. In 1939, however, November had five Thursdays. In hopes to boost the economy by extending the buying season before Christmas, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared Thanksgiving for the fourth Thursday instead of the last one. Two years later, Roosevelt signed into federal law the official changing of Thanksgiving Day to the fourth Thursday in November.
